Tight glycemic control is central to reducing the risk of long-term macrovascular and microvascular complications of type 2 diabetes and the associated morbidity and mortality. Evidence suggests the potential benefits of achieving normoglycemia with early intensive insulin therapy. Once insulin treatment has been initiated, each patient's regimen must be optimized and intensified in order to achieve the HbA1c target of less than 7%. Patient acceptance and adherence to insulin therapy may be improved with step-wise intensification. Dr. Arundhati Dasgupta, Consultant and Director of Diabetes and Endocrinology, joins us LIVE on Medflix to explore potential physician and patient-related hurdles to insulin initiation and intensification, as well as potential strategies to bridge these gaps.
