Sedation in Critically Ill Patients

Jul 20, 3:30 PM

Analgesia and sedation are frequently administered to critically ill patients in order to ease their pain and anxiety, enable invasive treatments, lower their stress levels and oxygen consumption, and enhance synchronization with mechanical breathing. Untreated agitation and pain trigger the sympathetic stress response, which can have detrimental short- and long-term effects. However, oversedation happens frequently and is linked to worse clinical outcomes, such as spending more time on mechanical breathing, staying longer in the intensive care unit, and experiencing more brain dysfunction (delirium and coma).  Join us live with Dr. Arjun to understand the recommended line of sedation in critically ill patients.
