Infectious diseases are becoming more common all over the world. As a result, detection methods for infectious pathogens evolve rapidly. Molecular methods used in medical microbiology to keep clinicians up to date on newer molecular technologies that show promise in the identification of microorganisms as well as the presence of virulence factors and antibiotic resistance determinants. This session will provide a wealth of information that can be used to specifically tailor the treatment of infectious diseases and will be a valuable aid in decision-making in ordering appropriate tests.
