Haemophilia is usually an inherited bleeding disorder that can lead to spontaneous bleeding as well as bleeding following injuries or surgery. Prophylaxis is the regular infusion of clotting factor concentrates in order to prevent bleeding; FVIII in Haemophilia-A & FIX in Haemophilia-B Type of Prophylaxis : -Continuous prophylaxis -Intermittent or periodic. The biggest barrier to long-term prophylaxis is the cost of treatment. However, it is cost-effective in the long term because it eliminates the high cost associated with subsequent management of damaged joints and improves the quality of life.
